Hush

Three engineers,

Three engineers, one electrical, one mechanical, and one civil, are sitting around the campfire one night, on a fishing trip, drinking some beers, and bullshitting about life in general. After awhile, the topic of God comes up. The mechanical engineer, feeling full of himself, puts forth his supposition that God was an mechanical engineer at heart. The other two look at him quizzically, and ask why. Well, he says: “Take the human body that he came up with, for example: The musculoskeletal system, with it’s muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, and bones, plus the cardiovascular system with it’s heart and lungs as pumps, arteries, veins, vessels, and capillaries. The liver and kidneys act as filtration devices. These are all mechanical systems. Therefore, I posit that God is actually a mechanical engineer at heart. Both of the other engineers, impressed, nod their heads in approval. Then, the electrical engineer speaks up: “That is a very impressive theory, and while I can see it has a lot of merit, I honestly feel that God was an electrical engineer at heart first. Allow me to explain: Using your example of the human body, all of those mechanical functions would be utterly impossible without electrical impulses to trigger and control them. For instance, the brain receives stimuli from the environment via neurons, synapses relay information between neurons, which trigger neurotransmitters to initiate activity within the heart, lungs, and muscles, etc. Even thoughts and memories are controlled by electrical impulses. Therefore, I posit that God is actually an electrical engineer at heart. This leaves the civil engineer, shaking his head, saying: “While you both make compelling arguments for your stances, I believe that you’re both full of it. I think God is actually a civil engineer at heart.” To which, both look at him incredulously, and ask how. He replies: “Once again, take the human body for example. WHO but a civil engineer would be audacious enough to run TWO sewer lines through a designated recreational area?!”
